Spring Home Maintenance Tips

The winter weather seems to be diminishing, and warmer temperatures have started moving in. Yes, spring is almost here, finally! As we transition from winter to spring, the outdoors seems to glow up as plants begin to grow again. This is also a great time for homeowners to pull out the ladder, tools and work gloves, and get to that spring home maintenance checklist!

Performing home maintenance in the spring is especially important as it helps you inspect your home from any damages that winter may have caused. Make your house stand out this year with these spring home maintenance tips.

Examine your roof shingles

During the winter, your roof takes a lot of inclement weather. It’s important that you examine your roof and make sure there is no warping, cracking, loose or missing shingles. It’s very beneficial to spot these damages early in the spring and to perform repairs on them as soon as possible. This will help ensure that there are no future problems!

Check / Clean out your gutters

Another thing you’ll want to check is your home’s gutters. During the winter, gutters can become clogged from sticks and leaves from the previous fall, and it can cause serious damage to your home if not noticed early. Make sure you are taking a look and making sure your downspouts are draining properly as well.

Clean / Replace your HVAC Filter

As this is something that should be performed regularly, it’s important to replace your home’s air filter. This will allow your heating and cooling system to work much more efficiently and help you save money on your energy bill. If you’re performing home maintenance, you might as well throw this task on your list!

Wash your windows

Washing your windows will make your home shine all across the neighborhood. There’s no better time to scrub those windows clean than during the spring. Also, it’s a good idea to check on your window storm screens and make repairs or replacements if necessary.

Clean out your garden beds

Spring showers bring May flowers, which is why it is important to clean out your flower beds! Cleaning out dead vegetation and removing debris that may have gotten trapped during the winter will help make your landscaping stand out as well as benefit your plants.

Caulk the cracks

Another important spring home maintenance task is to search for cracks around your home’s doors and windows. Cold winter temperatures can cause cracks near your doors and windows, which can cause outside air to leak in. Caulking these cracks will help keep your indoor clean and comfortable, and will help your cooling system to operate more efficiently! You also may find cracks in your driveway and sidewalk as well. Caulking these is also a good idea, as it helps keep your driveway in one piece.

Performing Spring maintenance is something every homeowner should be doing. Home maintenance not only ensures a safe home, but will give your home a fresh look.
