Ways to Keep Your Home Germ-Free

With everything that is happening right now in our world, it’s especially important we are taking care of our homes and families. Although this is a scary time, you should be able to feel safe in your own home! The first step in doing this is to make sure your home is as clean and healthy as it can be. As homeowners, there are steps we can take to ensure you and your family's safety. Here are some tips on how to keep your home germ-free!

Clean and Disinfect high traffic areas in your home regularly

In your home, it’s important that you are cleaning and disinfecting areas that you and your family are around regularly. Germs can hide very easily on doorknobs, stair railings and in your kitchen. Making sure you are cleaning these high traffic areas, as well as things in your house you may touch often, will help prevent germs and help ensure a healthy home. This can be done simply by wiping these items down with disinfectant wipes or spray.

Clean your cell phones / electronics / toys often

We all touch our cell phones, tablets, TV remotes many times throughout the day, and these are big carriers of germs. Homeowners should be wiping and cleaning common household items like these often to help prevent germs from spreading throughout your home.

Properly store your toothbrush

Another area where germs can build up is in your bathroom, especially your toothbrush! It’s important that you store your toothbrush up vertically, and rinse thoroughly with hot water when you’re finished brushing your teeth. Cold water is not as effective when killing germs, and placing your toothbrush vertically will help reduce contamination from elsewhere.

Ensure proper ventilation

Another thing homeowners can focus on to ensure a germ-free home is ventilation. Enclosed spaces free of sunlight and fresh air are very prone to germs. Be sure every room in your home is being ventilated properly, especially your kitchen and bathrooms! It’s also a good idea to open windows or doors at least once a day to bring natural sunlight and fresh air into your home!

Use High-Efficiency air filters

High-efficiency air filters help stop virus-carrying bacteria and germs from cycling through your home. These filters also help protect you from pet dander, and will keep your home feeling fresh at all times!

Other ways homeowner can germ-proof their homes

  • Vacuum often

  • Do your laundry often; both clothes and bedding

  • Start taking off your shoes when inside

  • Keep your kitchen floors clean

  • Wipe down countertops  and table regularly

  • Wipe down kitchen appliances regularly

During times like this, keeping your home healthy and germ-free is so important. Not only will this help protect you and your family, but your community as well. Cleaning and disinfecting your home regularly is something every homeowner should be focusing on right now.

On top of that, there are many other precautions we can take to prevent germs from spreading. The CDC has detailed steps to help prevent the spreading of the coronavirus, which includes: washing your hands multiple times a day, covering your coughs and sneezes, avoiding close contact with others and cleaning and disinfecting your home regularly.
