Small Ways To Make Your Home More Eco-Friendly

We are only two days away from Earth Day, a day that is focused on how we as people can better improve our planet. As climate change and low supply of resources are big topics in today’s world, everyone should be doing what they can to help improve our planet. Even the smallest changes to your daily life can make a lasting impact on the environment.

At ServiceOne, we understand how important energy efficiency is at home. Becoming more energy efficiency will not only save you money on energy costs, but will also greatly improve our environment. Below, we go over some small ways you can make your home more eco-friendly!

Switch to LED lightbulbs

Lighting results in about 9 percent of your home’s energy usage. Although this might not seem too significant, there’s an easy way to reduce your home’s energy usage through lighting. LED light bulbs use 75 percent less energy and can last for 25 percent longer than incandescent light bulbs. This is an easy and cheap way to help improve the energy efficiency in your home!

Wash your laundry in cold water

Another easy way to save energy in your home is by starting to wash your laundry using the cold water setting! 90% of a washing machine’s energy usage comes from heating up water. Although some things are better to be washed using hot water, such as towels, washing other items using cold water could end up saving you a little on your monthly energy costs!

Utilize a drying rack

In the good old days, dryers weren’t a thing, but clotheslines got the job done! Although clotheslines aren’t as popular in today’s world, air drying is still the most energy efficient way to get your clothes and other items dry! Consider drying certain clothes or items on a drying rack, that can be purchased for cheap!

Remember to turn lights off when you leave

Do you have a bad habit of forgetting to turn the lights off before you leave the house or the room? Not turning your lights will add a lot of unneeded energy usage in your home, ultimately creating higher energy bills. However, by making it a habit to turn your lights off whenever you leave the house, you can become much more eco-friendly!

Upgrade to energy efficient appliances and devices

One of the best ways to be environmentally friendly in your home is by switching to energy efficient appliances and devices. The less energy your home uses, the better, and as technology continues to innovate, more and more items are becoming more energy efficient! Things like installing a smart thermostat, or using the energy saving feature on your televisions, are a good place to start!

Becoming more eco-friendly in your home doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot of money, but instead, make little changes in your day-to-day tasks. As Earth Day approaches, now is a better time than ever to start living more eco-friendly!
