Turn your thermostat down
Since no one will be home while you are away, it’s safe to turn down the thermostat. Turning the temperature down will save you money on your energy bill. However, you will not want to turn the heating of your home completely off while you are away. Turning the heat too low will freeze up your home’s pipes and cause a bigger problem.
If you have a smart thermostat that allows you to change your home’s temperature remotely, that is even better! If you were to forget to turn your heat down, you could always do it on the road, as well as turn your heat back up upon arriving back home!
Have someone check on your home
When you're away, it’s a good idea to have friends, family members or neighbors that you trust check on your home to make sure everything is looking good. If you are only going to be gone for a couple of days, this may not be necessary.
