What's the symptom?
- Thermostat could be set too low.
- Lower inlet water temperatures at winter time, 45 to 50 degrees in winter, 65 to 70 degrees in summer.
- May need to stagger high usage times further apart. (Laundry, showers, baths, dishwasher)
- Limit showers to less than 10 min.
- If leaking from top or bottom, shut off water to heater or house and set thermostat to vacation and call for service.
- If electric, turn breaker off and call for service.
- Leaking from valve is REPAIRABLE, call for service.
Call your local gas supplier to identify leak.
- Rumbling/crackling/popping noises are caused by mineral buildup.
- Symptoms often include a popping of water trapped under lime deposits or sizzling of water trapped next to elements, boiling it to steam.
- Crackling/gurgling/popping noises in a water heater less than 6-months-old may be caused by a chemical reaction on the water condition, known as aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide looks like "jelly beads" or a green/blue/gray gel substance in heater drainage or aerators.
